Mosaics are assets in NEM.

2- Anyone can create as many as Mosaics as they need under a registered and unique Namespace and they can be used for cryptocurrencies, stocks, coupons, IOU’s, fiat pegs, and any other kind of financial assets.

3- If you create a Mosaic that requires a levy, whenever other users transact with your Mosaic, you get a levy fee from them.

4- It means that you can make more tokens or remove some of them. The total supply can be changed by the owner.

  1. Mosaics are digital assets that may represent a real world class of assets such as gold, people, money, properties, …
  2. Mosaics can be created by anyone interested in providing a solution to keep track of and exchange an asset value.
  3. levy are transaction fees that may or may not be requested when trading an asset using the Mosaics tokens.
  4. Sometime it’s not possible to know beforehand the total number of tokens necessary for a specific asset. For example we could imagine a token representing the gold on earth today but what if we discover a new area full of gold that would double the current supply. In this case, we would also need to update and double the supply of tokens as well.

  2. Anybody who is registered on NEM can create a mosaic for the purpose they require.
  3. A charge or fee charged to the user of your mosaic , if you decide to charge a levy of course.
  4. The supply of the mosaic can be increased after its creation.

  3. What is levy?
Levy is one of the properties that you can configure in your asset. Anyone who transfer the asset will pay you a fee specified in your levy property

  4. What does it mean to create a mosaic with mutable supply?

  1. Mosaics are akin to ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum. They are tokens set with certain parameters by the creator that can be used for specific purposes, transferred to others, etc.

  2. Anyone on the NEM blockchain can create a mosaic.

  3. A levy is a fee paid for using the mosaic. The creator sets a levy, thus they get a fee each time their mosaic is used by someone else.

  4. Mutable supply means the supply can be changed. The XEM tokens themselves, for example, are not mutable – that’s to say the supply cannot be increased or decreased. It is set at 8,999,999,999.
